At Sunway Medical Centre, our skilled and experienced doctors across 70 different specialities are trained in Malaysia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and Korea.
These doctors have also worked in the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Australia or joined us after becoming heads of their respective departments and leaders in their fields.
In a survey conducted between January to December 2018, our consultants earned between 96% – 98% positive ratings (i.e., “excellent” and “good”) from over 13,000 of our patients for their professional skills, knowledge and courtesy. This shows that not only do our consultants possess great medical skills and knowledge, they are also excellent communicators with great bedside manners. These are the same specialists who will treat and take care of you.

Accredited Private Hospital - Local & International Standards
As a hospital with experienced and dedicated doctors, we continuously work to match and outperform global and national standards. These global and national standards affirm the high quality and standards of care that we provide to our patients.
We are the first hospital in Southeast Asia to receive an international accreditation from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards since 2014. This accreditation shows that our hospital matches the high standards used in Australia.

International Benchmarking
We have also received star ratings from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards for our very low adult mortality, inpatient falls and medication errors that involved adverse events which needed interventions compared to hospitals in Australia. These world-class achievements would not be possible if not for the dedicated and well-trained physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health employees at Sunway Medical Centre who are committed in reducing inpatient falls and medication errors as part of our patient safety goals.

National Accreditation
We have also received accreditation from the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health. Hence, our standards of care have also received approval from a national body in Malaysia.
Patient Safety and Quality - Our Priority
Patient safety and high quality of care have always been our priority. More than 95% of our employees are trained in the prevention and control of infection practices.
The results of our training have been astounding: we have recorded zero case of catheter-related blood stream Infection (CRBSI) at Intensive Care Unit (ICU), zero case of acinetobacter baumannii infection and zero case of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) from January to December of 2018. This is because we follow strict protocols to eliminate infections in our hospitals. We emphasise hand washing and the usage of sterile instruments and equipment in our wards. We also pay attention and apply the best evidence from the scientific literature to reduce infections in our hospital so that our patients can return home without any hospital-acquired infections (HAI).

Sunway Medical Centre had also recorded a very low percentage of surgical site infection every month from January to December of 2018 for elective surgeries performed in our hospital. Whenever there is an infection, each case is studied very carefully and interventions to eliminate surgical site infection in our hospital is created to ensure patients do not leave with any surgical site infection post-surgery.

When it comes to quality of care, our highly trained nurses at the Intensive Care and High Dependency Units have helped us to record close to zero case of readmission to ICU/HDU within the same readmission.
Additionally, our world-class and accredited lab provides the best diagnostic tests and results for our patients and doctors. They successfully reported any clinically important laboratory results that affect our patients within 30 minutes to the doctors as shown in Figure 9. Hence, we have created an excellent communication link between our lab and doctors.

Radiation Oncology at Our One-Stop Cancer Centre
The Sunway Cancer Centre has some of the most advanced radiation treatment equipment including the Elekta Leksell Gamma Knife® ICON™ and the Elekta Brachytherapy among many others.
For radiation oncology, we received star ratings from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards for our patients’ shorter waiting time for treatments compared to hospitals in Australia. Additionally, patients are categorised precisely before any treatment takes place.
