24 June 2019
Sunway Medical Centre recently bagged the UK-Malaysia Outstanding Partnership Award in recognition for its contribution in research and clinical training opportunities, following a partnership with the University of Cambridge in 2014. Held for the second year, the 2019 annual British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Business Excellence Awards took place at the St Regis Hotel. This award strives to offer a heightened standard of recognition to companies and individuals who have excelled and developed the business landscape of UK and Malaysia.
The Outstanding UK-Malaysia Partnership Award was presented to Mr Choy Wah Wei, Chief Executive Officer, Sunway Medical Centre.
The award ceremony also honoured Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah with the highly coveted UK-Malaysia Business Personality of the Year Award for his contributions to bilateral trade and business between the two countries.
“Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah has grown Sunway into one of Malaysia's largest conglomerates. With worldwide operations in 50 locations, Sunway Group now has 12 business divisions such as real estate, construction, education, healthcare, retail, leisure and hospitality.
"He pioneered the concept of twinning programmes in Malaysia with partnerships between Sunway College and the universities of Leicester, Manchester and Greenwich over the years.
"More than just a leader with a mind of business, Cheah has initiated various initiatives with social goals and talent building," A representative of BMCC said.
HSBC Malaysia was one of the main sponsors for the award ceremony.
Kudos again to Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah and the team at Sunway Medical Centre! It was a memorable evening and an even more significant one to know that hard work and dedication goes a long way to get recognised this far.
