Charming Musical Performance Serenades Sunway Medical Centre
01 July 2019
Sunway Medical Centre was treated to a music performance which filled its Tower C lobby with harmonious melodies and sweet voices that serenaded the hearts of its visitors.
The performance was presented by “Musicians On Call” comprising of Sunway University BA (Hons) Music Performance and BA (Hons) Contemporary Music (Audio Technology) students. A total of 15 students showcased various ensembles including string orchestra, chamber music, solo instrumental work as well as a choir.
The students were accompanied by Mr. Samuel Tan, Programme Leader of Music Performance, Mr. Andrew Filmer, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Performance and Media, Ms. Jennifer Lim Yi Mei, Adjunct Lecturer (Cello) and Orchestra Conductor, and Ms. Chaing Yi Ling, Adjunct Lecturer (Voice) and Choir Conductor. The Dean of the School of Arts, Professor Don Bowyer was also present to lend his support.
During the one-hour performance, the students featured classical pieces by Mozart, Bach and Tchaikovsky followed by astounding solos of Jeg elsker Dig! by Edvard Grieg and A Change in Me by Alan Menken. To top it off, the choir rendered some lighthearted and moving tunes with Lollipop by The Chordettes and Look at the World by John Rutter.
Distinguishing Sunway Medical Centre from other hospitals, we ensure that the hospital’s lobby is constantly filled with soothing music to help ease our visitors and patients’ mind and soul. Also, in collaboration with Sunway University, this initiative gave students the opportunity to perform in a public setting, allowing them to hone their skills and build their confidence. The musical performance was also held to promote Sunway University’s BA (Hons) Music Performance degree programme which was launched this year.
