Breastfeeding provides the best nutrition for your baby, as it is easier to digest and contains antibodies that help your baby fight germs. It also reduces the mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and enhances bonding between mother and baby.
At Sunway Medical Centre, we are committed to being a ‘baby friendly' hospital as we have implemented the Ten Specific Steps to support successful breastfeeding. This initiative is adopted from the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative which was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF in 1991.
Our dedicated team will provide support for skin-to-skin contact after both vaginal deliveries and Caesarean sections, and will help you and your baby learn to breastfeed after delivery. We will also continuously support all mothers in their breastfeeding journey, as “WHO recommends all mothers worldwide to breastfeed their child for the first six months to achieve optimal growth, development and health. Thereafter, they should be given nutritious complementary foods and continue breastfeeding up to the age of two years or beyond.”
