“ Dr Chua recommended MAKOplasty Robotic Surgery for a more precise total hip replacement. I was amazed - since I woke up from surgery there hasn’t been any pain - which was quite magical. My daughter only had to bathe me for 3 days, I didn’t need her help anymore after that.”
The biggest difference for me, after the surgery, is that there is no more pain.
Before the surgery, I had a lot of difficulty sitting for a long time and getting down from the car, which gave me a lot of stress and difficulty. I could not stand for too long either, as my muscles will ache.
However, closer to the new year, the pain became excruciating. It affected my spinal cord, and I felt like my nerves were being pinched. At that point, I was taking painkillers up to 3 to 4 times a day.
Because of this, we went to see a doctor in Ipoh. The doctor said I needed 2 surgeries - one for the pinched nerves and another for my hips. However, my family and I decided that I should not do those surgeries that quickly, and went to seek out other opinions regarding my condition. We went to see a physiotherapist in Penang who managed to solve my pinched nerve issue. However, the physiotherapist strongly recommended that I get the hip surgery done, which was how we ended up here at Sunway Medical Centre.
Dr Chua recommended that I get the Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Total Hip Replacement Surgery to enjoy better results for my hip. Knowing that he has done the procedure before in Australia and Singapore, and also the fact that he will be operating the machine from the side (and not just the machine operating alone) gave us confidence and peace of mind. Not only that, he said that the machine allows for a more precise hip replacement, which would lead to better results for my hip.
I am truly amazed. Ever since I woke up on the first day after surgery, there has not been any pain - that is quite magical to me. My daughter only had to help me shower for 3 days, and after removing the stitches, I did not need her help anymore. In fact, when my daughter saw my quick recovery, she also told all her friends about it.
The doctor did mention before the surgery that if I did not do anything about this condition, I would become handicapped and wheelchair-bound within one to two years.
But now, I am able to move and do things on my own without much difficulty, and that is the most important thing to me.
